MFL
Back to SubjectsThe Languages Department aims to offer pupils the opportunity to develop their linguistic competence on a broad range of topical themes, through French, German or Spanish. We also aim to develop their wider communication skills, as well as develop an awareness and appreciation of other cultures, preparing students to be active global citizens.
We are a team of enthusiastic teachers who have high expectations for all and wish for all students to enjoy their language learning and to achieve to their full potential. We are committed to ensuring that all pupils make the best possible progress and that we offer a foundation on which everyone is able to continue with language learning through GCSE and beyond.
Within the department, students are taught using a variety of methods, including the use of authentic materials and linking the language to real-life situations. Students will develop skills in listening, reading, writing, speaking and translating across all topic areas. Students will progress from word and statement level through to communicating independently using a broad range of extended language, building confidence and resilience as they do. High levels of accuracy will be promoted across all skill areas.
Where possible, the Languages Department also organises trips abroad in order to enable students to actually be immersed in the language and to utilise their skills in reality. Students follow the AQA courses.
