Years 7 and 8 students watch interactive theatre performance on the theme of under age drinking
Back to NewsThis morning our Year 7 and 8 students are experiencing an inspiring live theatre performance from the Smashed Theatre Group. A 25-minute play is being followed by an interactive workshop, with the students reflecting on the theme of underage drinking.
The play examines:
- The social and emotional causes of underage drinking
- The impact of drinking on young lives
- Social influence and peer pressure
- How to access help for yourself and others with regards to drinking
The play also touched on how underage drinking can cause illness, issues with mental health and impact on schooling and potentially future career prospects. The Year 7 students who watched the performance in Period 1 were really engaged, providing excellent answers and feedback to the actors, Student Evie said: “I think the performance was really good and we have a good understanding of what we should do in situations that could lead to drinking.” Kye added: “I thought the play was really good and a very realistic scenario. I knew that alcohol could damage your liver, but I also learned today that it can cause cancers too.”
The actors commented on how well behaved and engaged our students were with the performances, and having spent the last five weeks touring with the production, we have been their favourite audiences so far. Well done Years 7 and 8.
