DISTRICT CUP GLORY: Year 10 Crowned Champions!
Back to News
What a journey! After a stunning 6–1 victory in the semi-final, our Year 10 football team marched into the District Cup Final against Costello School, ready for an epic showdown at Winklebury Stadium. With music pumping and spirits soaring, the stage was set for a battle to remember.
The opening whistle sparked a fiery contest, with The Hurst under early pressure. Our defence stood firm, repelling every attack. The best first-half chance fell to Henry H, whose strike forced a brilliant save from the Costello goalkeeper. At half-time, it was still 0–0.
The second half brought more intensity. The Hurst team began to dominate possession, creating chances while fending off dangerous free kicks—thanks to Zach B’s heroics in goal. With five minutes left, Leo W’s free kick found the net, only to be ruled offside. Full-time: 0–0. Penalties awaited.
The tension was electric. Our first five takers—Austin H, Kai T, Leo W, Zach B, and Tyler G —coolly converted. Costello matched us, sending the shootout to sudden death. Then came the drama: Zach B saved not one, but TWO penalties! Finally, up stepped George D —calm, composed, and clinical. He buried his shot in the bottom corner, sparking scenes of pure elation.
The team are now officially the best in Basingstoke and are thoroughly deserved winners. Every player delivered an outstanding performance in a game that will live long in the memory.
Congratulations to Zach B, George D, Stanley B, Tyler G, Charley G, Jacob B, Edward H, Austin H, Ant R, Caleb D, Henry H, Leo W, Kai T and Archie B.
