Two awards for Year 9 students at the TeenTech Hampshire Festival
Back to NewsNineteen of our Year 9 students spent the day at the Hampshire Court Hotel at the ‘TeenTech Hampshire Festival’ at the end of June, winning two awards at the interactive event which has been designed to inspire young teenagers about the contemporary world of Science, Engineering and Technology.
Working in two teams, our students moved through a series of areas titled the ‘Innovation Zone, Insight Exhibition and Challenge Zones’ working together on experiments and puzzles designed to make them think about and challenge their own perceptions.
The students won a ‘Super Safety’ award for their techy glasses project, looking at how a smartphone could operate inside a pair of glasses, and a ‘Marketing Award’ for their work on promoting an innovative sleep assist watch.
The Hurst’s Science Technician Mr Bowden said it was a fantastic day. “Our students really enjoyed this event and ahead of starting their Science GCSEs it helps them to think about potential careers paths that they never knew existed. The day also gives the students confidence in their own abilities, and the opportunity to have access to experts working at the cutting edge of Science and Engineering.”
