Pirates of Treasure Island - what an incredible production
Back to NewsThank you to all the parents and students who came to watch last week’s three-night run of ‘Pirates of Treasure Island.’ What a fantastic production it was! Featuring nearly 100 students in various roles including actors, and members of the orchestra and technical crew, the story was based around Ginny Hawkins, an orphan working in a rum-soaked tavern and her orphan friends.
The cast began rehearsals in September, spending over 70 hours perfecting the show, before performing the three shows to parents, students and local residents, with a separate performance given to local primary school children.
The show was an original retelling of the well-known story of Treasure Island and for the first time, the script and original score were produced by the school’s Creative Team, Head of Drama, Mr Attridge, and Head of Music, Mr Lines.
Director, Mr Attridge praised the students involved for not only their commitment to rehearsals, but their fantastic performances. “Our students have worked tirelessly on this project and their levels of commitment were rewarded by the standing ovations given every night by the audience,” he said. “It was also a fantastic feeling to be able to perform our first original musical, and for Mr Lines and I to hone our script and musical writing skills to produce this show.”
